Employment F.A.Q.
Listed below are answers to the most Frequently
Asked Questions by prospective employees:
• How much and when do I get paid?
Each location manager gets a salary based on how long your location
is open. To get a better idea of how well Tri-State pays, go to our Pay
Schedule section. All employees get paid in full on or about July 18th
via check from our payroll company C2 Portfolio. Last year our
average manager made approximately $2,300.00 working 19 days.
• What is the dress code for location managers and staff
members?
You can feel free to dress casual. You will be working outside during
June and July. It is acceptable to wear jeans, shorts, t-shirts,
sneakers or sandals.
• What does the typical day consist of as a location manager at
a tent location?
The typical day will begin with setting up the fireworks on the tables
under the tent for display from the storage container. This typically
takes two employees 60 - 75 minutes. As a retail operation, it is
required that your setup have a clean and orderly presentation. After
set up you will provide customer service by assisting customers in
choosing their fireworks, ringing up customers using the cash register
and credit card machine and restocking inventory as needed. During
the first couple of days you will be responsible for learning the prices
of each firework and becoming familiar with other operational
procedures. After you are completely familiar with all procedures, you
will be permitted to bring books and a radio to entertain yourself
between customers. At the end of each typical day you will pack up the
merchandise and place it in the storage container.
What is the typical day consist of as a location manager at a
stand location?
A stand sale differs from a tent sale because a stand is self locking
and therefore does not require set up and take down of merchandise
daily. The first day you will set up the stand permanently. This is a
lengthy process that will require the whole day. As a retail operation,
it is required that your setup has a clean and orderly presentation.

• How will I explain to customers what each firework does?
You will be provided with a price sign for each firework which has a
detailed description of what the firework does.
• What type of person typically operates or manages a
Fireworks tent/stand sale?
Most of our employees are school teachers, college students and
affiliated members. Anyone is eligible to schedule an interview to
become a manager at one of our firework locations as long as you can
meet the requirements listed under “Employment" section.
• What if I do not have retail experience?
Retail experience is always a plus but not a prerequisite for the job.
We are looking for energetic, responsible adults who are interested in
working hard for a three week period. You will be trained on all retail
aspects of the business if you do not have retail experience.
• Who will I be working with?
Tent location:
If you are hired as a location manager of a tent, you will be given a
couple of weeks to find your own assistant manager (i.e. brother,
sister, friend) whom you will be working with daily. This person will
have to be interviewed and approved by management before they are
formally hired. If you cannot find your own assistant manager we will
assign someone to work with you. Typically, this person will be a
college student or school teacher as are most of our employees.
Also, during peak sales (July 2 -4) you will be working with as many as
four other employees. As location manager you will be able to recruit
your own staff to work with you. Most managers have friends and
family work with them.
Number of Employees:
Most stands will only have one employee throughout the sale with the
exception of July 2 - July 5. Other locations will have 2 employees in
the evenings and one during the day. The number of employees is
typically determined by the volume of business generated in previous
years.
